# Superhero name generator

Every hero needs a name, a power and a weakness. Roll all three, lock the parts you like, and roll again until the costume fits.

## Two kinds of hero

**Classic comic-book** heroes get dramatic names, such as a title and a codename, a colour and an animal, or a single forged word, and proper powers: bending light, rewinding ten seconds, talking to weather. **Everyday heroes** are named after the small battles of daily life and have the powers people actually wish for, like folding fitted sheets or always choosing the fastest checkout queue. *A bit of both* mixes them, which is how you end up with a cosmic hero who is terrified of slightly damp socks.

Weaknesses are shared by both kinds and are always silly. A hero is more fun to write, draw or dress up as when the flaw is as specific as the power.

### Locking and rolling

Each part has a padlock and a dice button. Lock the name you love and press **New hero** for fresh powers and weaknesses, or roll just one part with its dice. **Back** steps through earlier heroes. Save a hero with the heart, and Copy puts the name, power and weakness on your clipboard as three lines, ready for a character sheet, a party invitation or a comic strip.

The names are written to steer clear of famous comic-book characters, but with this many heroes in print, check before you publish a story with one.

## Questions

**Is this suitable for children?**

Yes. The powers and weaknesses are written to be silly rather than scary, with no violence or rude words, which makes it handy for classroom writing prompts and party games.

**Why are there no "-man" or "-woman" names?**

The names use titles like Captain, Doctor and Agent that suit anyone. If your hero needs a "-man", "-woman" or "Kid" ending, add it yourself: it usually works best on a single-word name.

**Can I keep the name and change only the power?**

Yes. Press the dice beside the power to roll only that part, or lock the name and weakness and press New hero.
