How the names are made, and how to say them
Each people has its own list of opening consonants, vowels and closing consonants, a habit of stressing the first, second-to-last or last syllable, and a few favourite endings. The generator builds a name one syllable at a time from those parts, then throws out anything with tripled letters, clumsy clusters or a word that should not be there. Because the sounds stay consistent, ten names from the same people sound like they could be cousins.
Reading the guide
Hyphens split the syllables and the one in capitals takes the stress: LAN-tern. Vowels at the end of a syllable are long: ah as in father, ay as in day, ee as in see, oh as in go, oo as in moon and eye as in eye. Before a consonant they are short, as in cat, bed, sit, hot and cup. Th is always as in thin, and g is always hard, as in go.
Using them in a story or game
Pick one people per region or faction and stay with it, so readers learn to hear where a character comes from. Turn on the second name for family names, Houses or nicknames, depending on the people. Short names suit minor characters; save the long, ornate ones for people who matter. Change a letter or two whenever you like.
Questions
Are these peoples based on real cultures or languages?
No. All six were invented for this site, with sounds chosen to feel distinct from each other rather than to imitate any real language. A generated name can still match a real word or name by chance, so give it a quick search before you publish.
Can I use the names in my book or game?
Yes, free of charge and without credit. The names are generated on your device and nobody else sees them unless you share them.
Why does the pronunciation look odd for some names?
The guide spells each syllable the way an English reader would say it, which is a rough fit for invented sounds. If you prefer a different reading, use it: the guide is a suggestion, not a rule of your world.
